MANILA - Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has ordered the Department of Tourism (DOT) to come up with a better slogan following the "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" (Philippines What a Beauty).
MANILA – Philippine President Benigno Aquino III has ordered the Department of Tourism (DOT) to come up with a better slogan following the “Pilipinas Kay Ganda” (Philippines What a Beauty).
Aquino told a news briefing at the presidential palace on Saturday he welcomed the pronouncement of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao to be the country’s “poster boy” to promote the Philippine tourism to the world.
Pacquiao, who paid a courtesy call to the President on Saturday, said he is willing to support the government’s tourism campaign.
“I am happy if he (Pacquiao) will really accept the offer to be the image of the Philippines,” Aquino said.
On the criticism of DOT’s slogan, Aquino said, “maybe we do not need to finetune it but to look for a better (slogan).”
He said that others were happy with the previous “Wow Philippines” slogan but he still asked Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim to provide him with the entire blueprint for the tourism program.
“I want to review all the details,” he said.
Critics have said that the new DOT slogan was not well-thought and even the design was allegedly copied from Poland’s design.
