The homely “Coco de Mer Hotel & Black Parrot Suites” of Praslin Island in the Seychelles pulled the coveted award of “The Rookie of the Year Award” at World Travel Market (WTM) 2010 in London. This award is for the youngest hotel in the Expedia Travel portfolio with the highest growth of sales. Ash Behari, the known and popular director of the property, was in London to collect the award from Walter Lafaro of Expedia.

This award comes at a time when Expedia is enjoying record sales figures for Seychelles. Expedia has said that they are now committed to driving their portfolio in the Seychelles and increasing sales further.

The Creole Islands of the Seychelles are experiencing a relaunching of its tourism industry since the government of President James Michel took the decision to hand the country’s tourism industry over to the private sector. Tourism remains the pillar of the Seychelles economy, and the island’s private sector has now been in the driving seat of the whole industry with Louis D’Offay, the chairman of the industry’s association, and Alain St.Ange, the government appointed CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, and eTurboNews ambassador, working hand in hand to consolidate the island’s vital industry.
