6.5 quake hits Izu Islands of Japan

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 occurred near Hachijo-jima, Izu Islands, Japan at 00:18:24.03 UTC on September 4, 2013. According to the US Geological Survey there is no tsunami risk.

The earthquake was located hundreds of kilometers south of Tokyo, and according to a Fukushima TEPCO operator, the quake did not cause any new problems with the nuclear facility.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage.
