Qatar Tourism on the Road in Asia

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) continued its two-week Asian Roadshow in Hong Kong this evening at the Island Shangri La.

Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) continued its two-week Asian Roadshow in Hong Kong this evening at the Island Shangri La. QTA and leading members of the tourism industry in Qatar met with more than 70 travel trade professionals in Hong Kong to boost awareness of Qatar’s tourism offerings as a destination for MICE travel (meetings, incentive, convention, exhibition), sport, culture and upscale leisure tourism.

Qatar Tourism Authority has been given the mandate by the Qatari government to organize, enable and supervise the tourism industry in Qatar. Under this mandate, QTA promotes Qatar as an upscale destination at international travel shows targeting the lucrative meetings, exhibitions, incentives and luxury travel industries.

Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of QTA said: “As a complement to our participation at international travel exhibitions, Qatar Tourism Authority has organized this roadshow throughout Asia to deepen our ties and to build new relationships with the tourism and travel professionals in Hong Kong and the other major cities on the tour. Through this roadshow we aim to build networks facilitating future business in tourism between the State of Qatar and Hong Kong.”

“Qatar and Asia enjoy a friendly alliance which is strengthened through strong business relationships and strategic partnerships. Investment companies and asset managers in China and Hong Kong have been looking more closely at opportunities in Qatar and the Middle East region, looking to optimize capital and build partnerships; as well, Qatar has made strategic investments in companies involving Hong Kong partners.”

“We are also two countries that share some similarities: our strong economies today are based largely on our sea-faring past and the rich waters that surround us. We are also both passionate about sports, and football in particular. On this roadshow, we aim to build on these strategic investments and similarities, boosting tourism between Hong Kong and Qatar.”

Qatar Tourism Authority and its delegation held an afternoon session with professionals from the business and incentive travel industry in Hong Kong. The event ended with an evening reception which was attended by most of the travel and tourism professionals from Hong Kong. A grand prize drawing took place with the winner being awarded a 48-hours trip to Doha compliments of Qatar Airways, accommodation at the Sharq Village & Spa, a city tour by Regency Holidays and two VIP tickets to the Asian Football Cup. The winner of the grand prize was Mr. Adolf Shih the Operations Manager of Wincastle Travel in Hong Kong.

Many professionals from the travel trade in Hong Kong came to learn about Qatar for the first time. Ms. Shadow Mak, Manager of Corporate and Leisure Travel at Globetrotter Travel, came to find out what packages could be organized for long weekend trips for her incentive and corporate clients.

“We are looking for a new destination and new products to recommend to our clients. In the Middle East we know about Dubai, but we are very interested to learn about what Qatar has to offer. We arrange packages of 4 to 5 days for our clients most of the time, so we are looking for an itinerary for them to experience all the unique aspects about a destination in this period of time. Qatar is a very good option.”

Tony C.W. Ho, Honorary Life President of The Travel Photographic Club in Hong Kong, was also happy to learn about Qatar. “I have been travelling for many years, and have organized many group tours. But I have not yet visited the Middle East. I organize tours for groups of photographers, to make it interesting and to learn more about the destination. I look forward to arranging a group tour to Qatar very soon.”

Qatar Tourism Authority will be accompanied by a distinguished delegation from the hospitality, culture, sports and leisure sectors in Qatar. The delegation includes Aspire Zone, the Asian Cup Qatar Committee, Grand Hyatt Doha, Grand Regency Hotel, Movenpick Tower & Suites, Museum of Islamic Art, Qatar Airways, Qatar Airways Holidays, Qatar 2022 Bid Committee, Qatar International Adventures, Qatar International Tours, Regency Holidays, Ritz Carlton Doha, Shangri-La Hotel, Sharq Village & Spa, Unique Choice Qatar and the W Hotel Doha.

The cities on the roadshow include Seoul, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, with the campaign finishing at ITB Asia in Singapore.
