More than 2.5 million tourists visited the world’s first national park over the June, July and August summer season. That’s up by more than 200,000 compared to the summer of 2009.

And last year was a record.

Nearly 3.3 million people visited Yellowstone in 2009, topping the previous record set in 2007 by nearly 5 percent.
Yellowstone officials say the park is on track to set another record for park visitors.

July and August are typically the park’s busiest months. Yellowstone had nearly 855,000 visitors in August, a more than 13 percent increase from August of 2009.
