UGANDA (eTN) – The MV Kalangala ferry in Uganda was taken out of service last week for what was described as routine maintenance and inspection, leaving many travelers stranded as they were unaware of this development.
What angered regular travelers to and from the Ssese Island group on Lake Victoria was the fact that the ferry was tied up at the pier without any visible activity underway, leaving shippers of cargo and goods to the islands equally outraged, as they had to hire expensive lake boats โ often in the news over accidents and poor safety standards.
The weather at present and the prevailing strong winds across the lake are posing a danger for smaller lake boats and added to the anger by the public, many of whom were, according to local media reports, demanding the vessel to be put back into service immediately or else maintenance to start promptly and not delaying the work.
