Air Uganda today took delivery of its third Bombardier CRJ-200 from GECAS USA. The 50-seater has been acquired on a long-term lease and joins Air Uganda’s current fleet of 50-seater jets and MD 87.

The latest acquisition is part of Air Uganda’s growth plan to increase capacity and widen its network. The new CRJ brings commonality to the fleet and will serve the existing routes and planned new routes Kilimanjaro and Mogadishu.

Since its inception in 2007, the airline has seen steady growth in numbers and capacity and equipping the airline is the next step in taking the Air Uganda to the next level. Apart from the three new routes planned for 2013, the airline plans to acquire bigger aircraft as part of phase two of its development.

“The new aircraft is going facilitate our operations to the new planned routes but also enable seamless service on our current network. We are therefore very excited about this acquisition and believe that is part of the tremendous growth Air Uganda will experience this year,” said Mr. Cornwell Muleya , the newly-appointed CEO of Air Uganda.

Air Uganda, which celebrated its 5th anniversary in November 2012, prides itself in offering great service to its clients at all points of contact but most of all on board. The Airline has a great on time performance record and will offer its passengers more flexibility and convenience with the new Aircraft, as it expands its route network and offers better connectivity.

Air Uganda is part of the Aga Khan fund for economic development, operating flights to all East African Capitals, Mombasa and Juba in Southern Sudan. The Airline in December, 2012, joined a handful of airlines in Africa when it received its IOSA registration, certifying it as an airline that upholds the highest operational safety standards and systems.
