Officials: Hawaii visitor arrivals climb in June

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Tourism Authority reports the state hosted 13.6 percent more visitors in June than it did in the same month last year.

HONOLULU — The Hawaii Tourism Authority reports the state hosted 13.6 percent more visitors in June than it did in the same month last year.

Arrivals rose for the seventh consecutive month to more than 625,000 visitors.

The increase coupled with higher average daily visitor spending led to a 16 percent jump in total expenditures last month to $131.7 million.

For the first half of 2010, total expenditures climbed to $5.3 billion, a 7.8 percent increase compare with the first half of 2009.

Year-over-year results from Hawaii’s top visitor markets for June:

• 7.3 percent increase in arrivals by air (283,793 visitors) from the U.S. West;

• 10.1 percent increase in arrivals by air (171,868 visitors) from the U.S. East;

• 47.8 percent increase in arrivals (96,730 visitors) from Japan;

• 7.8 percent increase in arrivals (13,535 visitors) from Canada.

Year-to-date results from Hawaii’s top visitor markets for 2010:

• 5.7 percent increase in all Hawaii tourism (3,399,075);

• 4.3 percent increase in arrivals by air (1,383,921 visitors) from the U.S. West;

• 0.2 percent increase in arrivals by air (829,524 visitors) from the U.S. East;

• 7.2 percent increase in arrivals (570,390 visitors) from Japan;

• 11.0 percent increase in arrivals (215,782 visitors) from Canada.
