Bilateral air services negotiations between Korea and Seychelles

The Seychelles tourism industry will be expecting to grow soon with more visitors arriving from the Asian market, particularly South Korea. This will come as a result of facilitating direct air links between the two countries after an Air Services Agreement is signed this week.

A 5-member delegation from the Republic of Korea will be in Seychelles from July 14-16 where they will meet representatives of Foreign Affairs, Air Seychelles, and the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) whose CEO, Mr. Gilbert Faure, will be heading the delegation. The aim of the meeting is to finalize details about a bilateral air services agreement between the two countries.

The air services negotiations follows President Michel’s official visit to the Republic of Korea in October 2009, where he pushed for more cooperation between Seychelles and South Korea, with special emphasis on promoting investments and tourism, to increase the number of visitors from Korea. Around 1.4 million Koreans visit other countries annually, and Seychelles could significantly tap into that market.

Final negotiations will be done on Thursday 15th July at the SCAA Head Office at the Seychelles International Airport, and the signing of the agreement will be done on the same day at 1100 hrs.

The Seychelles–Republic of Korea Bilateral Air Services Agreement is the 36th Bilateral Air Services Agreement facilitated by the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority on behalf of the government of Seychelles. More are expected to be established or updated in the near future in order to promote air links to Seychelles.
