It has been announced that Port Victoria, Seychelles, is the recipient of a Prestigious World Travel Award, widely considered to be the “Oscars” of the world travel industry, for having been voted as the leading cruise port in the Indian Ocean for 2010.

The World Travel Awards began to impact on the international travel and tourism scene some 17 years ago and have since taken a lead on one of the most important aspects of travel and tourism – the quality customer experience.
The World Travel Awards objective has been to encourage world-class competition, stimulate innovation, and creativity, as well as ensure that travelers receive exceptional value.

Winning a World Travel Award has become much sought after as award winners are coming to regard this considerable achievement as most influential, helping to reassure travelers and effectively assist sales and marketing performance.
Seychelles’ Port Victoria was voted leading cruise port in the Indian Ocean by an 183,000-strong voting database of travel, tourism, and hospitality professionals.

Lt. Colonel Andre Ciseau, CEO of the Seychelles Ports Authority, commented, “The Seychelles Port Authority is very proud to receive this award on behalf of all its partners and stakeholders. I see this award as a vindication of our policies and strategies to make the port a welcoming and, above all, safe area. Our strict adherence to the measures we employ to ensure that Port Victoria runs efficiently is not always popular with service providers, but now we see our efforts rewarded and our hard work recognized by this prestigious award. I hope that we may now all be inspired by what we have achieved to take Port Victoria from strength to strength in the years ahead.”

The World Travel Awards Gala Presentation Ceremony is due to take place at the Sandton Conference Centre, Johannesburg, South Africa, on July 7 where Seychelles also appears in the nomination lists for the Indian Ocean’s leading destination, hotel, airport, airline, beach destination, family resort, golf resort, green resort, and honeymoon destination.
