Responding to overwhelming concerns about whether booking a beach vacation anywhere along the Florida Gulf Coast is a good idea at this point prompted Orbitz to make an offer to anyone who wants to visit Florida this summer. Orbitz will be offering full refunds of any vacations booked in an area affected by the Gulf oil spill in the state of Florida.

Calling it their “Open Beach Guarantee” for those who make a hotel booking at a participating Florida property via Orbitz for travel between now and July 31st 2010. The offer does not include refunds for airline tickets or car rentals in Florida.

The deal says that If a government agency closes a beach within 20 miles of the property you are staying at, or declares the area you are staying in dangerous, travelers will get a full refund of the price they paid for the hotel. Orbitz said in a press release that they are only covering Florida at this time due to the big tourism the state brings in during Summer vacation, but is planning to extend the guarantee to other Gulf Coast beach destinations in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

View the terms and conditions of the Open Beach promotion on the Orbitz website. On top of the list of hotels offering the promotion along the Gulf Coast and Florida Panhandle, the list also includes participating hotels and properties in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Daytona Beach and other areas that so far have not been linked to the DeepWater Horizon Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
