Seychelles tourism recognizes the importance of its home grown hotels

“Tourism Development and the continued progress in the Seychelles tourism industry has not meant that the ‘home grown’ establishments have been sidelined,” said Alain St.

“Tourism Development and the continued progress in the Seychelles tourism industry has not meant that the ‘home grown’ establishments have been sidelined,” said Alain St. Ange, the Seychelles director of tourism marketing.

The Seychelles has seen and array of new hotel chains open their doors on the islands, and today, the mid-ocean tropical islands of the Seychelles can claim that they have most of the known and important hotel names operating on their shores. The country has always observed a development policy that puts a lot of emphasis on the country’s environment, and today, the islands are able to claim success in the manner in which they have protected one of their most important natural assets – their environment.

“We have tried to present to the world the ideal mix of establishments to suit every budget and every pocket,” said Alain St. Ange. “Our smaller establishments are generally Seychellois owned and managed, and they continue to ensure our authentic Seychellois Creole culture and ambience is seen and appreciated by our visitors. They also ensure that Seychelles remains a tourism destination for the discerning traveler looking for more than just a hotel, but an experience or for a holiday with a difference,” Alain St. Ange said.

For many years the Seychelles was perceived as a destination for the rich and famous, or as St. Ange himself often says, “for the peoples of the world “. This was but a perception the Seychelles Tourism Board recently confirmed to a press delegation on a visit to the islands. The Seychelles prides itself that it has the whole range of accommodation establishments from the six- and five-star resorts, to private island resorts, and from Seychellois-owned and managed establishments, to the conventional hotels group.

The island’s “home grown” players remain a recognized group of investors and many have made a mark on the local tourism scene. One such local family who has been involved in the hospitality network is Mary Geers, who today, runs the Sunset Hotel (28 rooms) on the main island of Mahe, the Village du Pecheur Hotel (19 rooms) right on Cote D’Or beach on the island of Praslin, and the Eden Holiday Villas (10 rooms) also on the main island of Mahe in the Seychelles. “These are great establishments that the Seychelles Tourism Board supports,” Alain St. Ange said. “What they are offering to our visitors is truly Seychelles,” Alain St. Ange told the gathered press.
