Sheikh Maktoum Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, opened KSA’s (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) wing at Dubai’s Arabian Travel Market 2010 (ATM). During the opening ceremony, HH Sheikh Maktoum took a tour and viewed the different sections, which included visual displays of the Kingdom’s tourism, heritage, and archeological resources, and commented, “KSA is a unique and important destination in GCC, and I commend the developments the Kingdom is witnessing, among of which is tremendous developments in the tourism field.”

The Kingdomโ€™s participation this year comes as an extension to the success of previous participations and aims to introduce the Kingdom as a competitive tourism destination for GCC citizens, as well as for domestic tourists who are the key target of SCTA’s (Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities) activities and programs.

Mr. Abdullah Al-Jehani, the head of the Kingdom’s delegate, and SCTA’s vice president for marketing and media, stated that SCTA is focusing this year on presenting the concept of value tourism and inclusive tourism experiences based on the Kingdom’s cultural, natural, and social resources, adding that such participations contribute in introducing the Kingdom’s history and civilization, in addition to benefiting from the activities and experiences presented at the ATM.

Each year the wing’s design is based on Saudi urban heritage in a certain province, and this year the Najdi style was chosen (Al-Masmak and Muraba Palaces), in which the traditional natural materials were deployed to reflect the Kingdom’s rich urban heritage. A number of tourism trends and handicrafts among many other activities and folkloric performances will be represented in the Kingdom’s wing.

Twenty Saudi companies will be participating this year, among which will be Al-Tayar Travel and Tourism Agency, Mawasim for Travel and Umrah, Al-Shetawi Travel and Tourism Agency, Al-Hokair Group, Riyadh Exhibition Center, Dar Al-Eman, fursan, Al-Reyadah Company, Sad Al-Samalagee, Al-Mindinah Oberoy Hotel, Seyaheeya est. Al-Koswa’e, Hajeej, Saudi Hotels and Resorts, Zamzam International, Accord Hotels Saudi Arabia, and Elaph, among others.

The ATM is held at the Dubai International Center for Conferences and Exhibitions, United Arab Emirates, and will end on May 7, 2010, with the participation of sixty countries, and is considered as one of the international travel affairs in which participants from the five continents participate to represent tourism destinations, resorts, airlines, and tourism services.
