ETOA will be launching a Group Tourism Charter in conjunction with European Cities Marketing (ECM) and the International Road Transport Union (IRU) on May 11 in Brussels, followed by a seminar to look at the challenges and opportunities facing the group sector.

The charter will lay out good practice for welcoming and working with groups, as well as promoting the benefits for destinations. The event, which will be hosted and sponsored by the Crowne Plaza Brussels, brings together a variety of stakeholders from operators and tourist boards to attractions, museums, and hotels, as well as political representatives.

โ€œGroup tourism is hugely important for Europeโ€™s tourist industry, and it is in all of our interests to make it work well,โ€ said Nick Greenfield, ETOAโ€™s head of Tour Operator Relations. โ€œA seamless experience from arrival in a city to visiting of sights and enjoying hospitality not only makes sense but leaves a lasting impression on visitors. For this to work there must be a proper dialogue between the various players, and this includes local authorities. There are challenges, such as capacity management, but these must be met in a spirit of cooperation and consultation. Where this works, everyone will reap the benefits.”

Registration for the event is now open and is free for ETOA members. The charter launch will be at 11:00 am followed by a panel discussion, lunch, and then two afternoon seminars looking more in depth at the practicalities of group tourism, as well as the opportunities for promotion. The day will be rounded off with a drinks reception sponsored by Chez Leon.
