Uruguayan regional airline Pluna SA has confirmed the purchase of another seven CRJ 900 aircraft from Canada’s Bombardier, Inc. at a cost of “nearly” $200 million, which will bring its total fleet to 14 of these aircraft.

Pluna will receive three aircraft this year, adding to its existing seven CRJ 900s already in operation, Pluna general manager Matias Campiani said in a statement. Pluna will receive the remaining four aircraft starting in 2011, he said.

The purchase will cost $75 million this year, rising to “nearly” $200 million in total, Pluna said in the statement.

The airline said it has invested nearly $200 million over the last three years, since the Leadgate private equity group bought a 75% stake in the company.

Uruguay’s government owns the remaining 25% of the former state-owned airline.
