The high New Zealand dollar means one of New Zealand’s premiere tourist destinations is struggling to increase its tourist numbers.

Destination Queenstown chief David Kennedy says the strong currency is having an impact on the number of visitors to New Zealand.

He says that while 1.3 million people visited Queentown last year, the rate of growth has slowed to less than 3%.

Destination Queenstown chief David Kennedy says the strong currency is having an impact on the number of visitors to New Zealand.

He says that while 1.3 million people visited Queentown last year, the rate of growth has slowed to less than 3%.

Kennedy says tourism operators have been aware of the situation for several months and have been adjusting to make sure they can cope.

He is also blaming the situation on the attraction of new destinations and low-cost airlines, saying that the combination of events is changing the way tourism operates in New Zealan.

Kennedy says the days of double-digit growth in the tourism sector are gone, but he says Queenstown is constantly changing its marketing to attract visitors.
