Bids were invited by the Ugandan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which also manages the Entebbe International Airport, to submit expressions of interest for the development of a major shopping mall within the airport perimeter, offering the successful bidder up to 2.4 hectares of land for the development of such a facility on a lease lasting up to 40 years. The mall, however, needs to be constructed on a BOT basis, which means “build, operate, transfer,” i.e., it will become property of the UCAA upon expiration of the lease.

At the same time, the CAA has also advertised for the construction of car shades in the main parking areas, which can also be used for advertising. Added canopy roofs are also planned for the entrance area to the airport where cars draw their parking tickets on entry, a move welcomed by motorists who during heavy rain regularly suffer being rained on. In a related development, it was also learned that MONUC, the UNโ€™s peace keeping force in Eastern Congo, will be paying for the rehabilitation of taxiway H at the Entebbe International Airport, which they have been using as their main east and central African airbase for several years now. They have advertised for expressions of interest to carry out that work, before pre-qualification and finally selection of contractors will be decided upon. For those details, interested parties can write to [email protected] .
