The Travel Foundation today announces Jeremy Sampson as its new Chief Executive. From 16 September he will take over from Salli Felton, who steps down to relocate to her native Australia.

Sampson is well-known and respected within tourism and conservation networks and comes to the role with a wealth of experience in sustainable tourism, having worked across the spectrum of destinations, industry, NGOs, and academia. He has held leadership positions for a range of organizations, including as President of international tour operator GreenSpot Travel, and he most recently led large-scale sustainable tourism initiatives for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Mediterranean Cooperation Centre, where he worked across Southern Europe and North Africa. He also leaves behind his role as Adjunct Professor at the International Institute of Tourism Studies at George Washington University School of Business.

Sampson said:
โ€œI feel honored to take up the helm at this impressive organisation and incredibly excited about leading it through its next chapter. We must continue to build momentum, achieving positive outcomes for destinations at a global scale, and advocating, more strongly than ever, for sustainable tourism as the only viable option. My motto is to โ€˜do good work with great peopleโ€™ and I shall do just that with the experienced and talented Travel Foundation team, and by collaborating with the many public, private and non-profit organizations around the world which can help us to deliver our missionโ€.

Noel Josephides, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said:
โ€œWe have found in Jeremy a very impressive individual who has demonstrated exemplary leadership skills, a real understanding of the issues facing our industry, and a passion for the Travel Foundation and its work. We back his bold vision for the Travel Foundation and have every confidence that he will inspire his team and the wider world with ambitious plans to transform the way tourism operates. The Trustees also thank Salli for her true dedication throughout the past six years and recognize the great strides that she and the Travel Foundation have already made to ensure that destinations are understood as precious shared assets and not business commodities.โ€

Salli Felton, the current CEO, said:
โ€œIโ€™ve known Jeremy for many years, and I am leaving the Travel Foundation in very capable hands. This is a great job, with so many opportunities and so much potential, and Jeremy will seize that and make a real difference from day one. Good luck Jeremy, you have the support of a super-talented team and, with your leadership, the Travel Foundation will go from strength to strength.โ€

Sampson, a US national, is currently based in Malaga, Spain, and will relocate to the Travel Foundationโ€™s head office in Bristol, UK, to take up the role. His LinkedIn profile is https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeremyasampson/
