Seychelles Festival of the Sea hits the airwaves

Seychelles’ Cindy Andre, the popular SBC Radio 1368 presenter, had Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, as a guest on the Seychelles Broadcasting Program’s Listeners Choice on peak hour Monday early evening. Cindy Andre questioned the Head of the Tourism Board to answer questions on SUBIOS, the Seychelles Festival of the Sea, that is this year being jointly hosted with the REGATTA 2011 of Round Table Seychelles.

It was the opportunity for Alain St.Ange to talk about the next event on the Tourism Board’s โ€œCelebrate Seychellesโ€ calendar, their SUBIOS – the Seychelles Festival of the Sea – which has joined forces with Round Table’s REGATTA 2011 to bring a new festival to the spectacular Beau Vallon Bay on the Island of Mahe.

“We are celebrating the Festival of the Sea on the sea this year,” Alain St.Ange said live on the airwaves. The Seychelles Tourism Board and Round Table are towing a large barge on Wednesday morning all the way from Victoria, that will be beached at Beau Vallon Beach and which will serve as the stage for the three days of festivities from November 4-6. “It is a Festival of the Sea and the 2011 Regatta, and we wanted everyone, Seychellois and visitors to our shores, to appreciate the unique turquoise blue seas of the Seychelles lapping its white sandy beaches. This is why we moved our stage for our festivities on the sea itself. This is a novel idea, and it will be a new attraction for our country, and it will bring new life to this annual celebration,” said Alain St.Ange.

Lima Calbio, the International Soca Queen from Trinidad & Tobago, will be guest star this year, and she will be performing alongside DJ Juicy M & DJ Antonius who are also flying into the Seychelles to join the Seychelles islands favorite stars celebrate SUBIOS, their Festival of the Sea and REGATTA 2011.

The Official Opening Ceremony is set for Friday at 6:00 pm from the floating stage of the barge floating at Beau Vallon Bay. This will be followed by live music by the local Seychelles and their guest artists. The traditional SUBIOS Film Show will then be screened as stalls along Beau Vallon Beach will provide refreshments and offer souvenirs of this year’s festivities. Saturday, March 5, will see the annual Treasure Hunt Competition, the SUBIOS Man & Woman Competition, and the H. Savy Road Race, before the Prize Giving Ceremony for the Treasure Hunt Competition takes place. Live music is set to dominate the beach of Beau Vallon all day and right up to 11:00 pm this coming Saturday with Lima Calbio, a number of Seychelles top artists, and DJ Juicy M and DJ Antonius all joining in to entertain the thousands expected to descend on Beau Vallon.

A Heineken Beach Soccer tournament, a Yamaha Canoe race, a Yamaha Mini Mahe boat race, a sand castle competition, a Jet Ski Display, and a Beach Handball tournament are all activities also set to take place this Saturday on Beau Vallon itself. A children’s village has also been created by the National Council for Children (NCC) to provide entertainment for the kids as parents enjoy the 2011 SUBIOS, the Festival of the Sea, and REGATTA 2011.

Sunday, March 6, will see a Family Fun Beach Extravaganza with again live music from the stage in the sea and the continuation of all the tournaments started on Saturday. At 6:00 pm there will be the draw of the double lottery – the SUBIOS, the Seychelles Festival of the Sea Lottery and the Round Table’s REGATTA Lottery.

To end the festivities for 2011 at Beau Vallon, the Seychelles Tourism Board’s Deputy CEO, Elsia Grandcourt, will this year have the honor of launching the poster and theme for SUBIOS, the Seychelles Festival of the Sea 2012.

The Seychelles Tourism Board has had the support of Etihad Airways as their Official Airline partner with Asian Geographic Magazine, Scuba Diver Magazine, Asian Diver Magazine, and Asian Geographic Passport Magazine all joining in as Official Publication Partners.

In addition, the 2011 festivities have had the support from VIJAY Engineers & Contractors, SCAA – the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority, BERJAYA Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino, SACOS Insurance Company, SEYBREW Beer, Takamaka Bay Rum, DARK DOG, IntelVision, EXCEL Motors, Hunt Deltel & Company, Heineken, INFINITE, DIEVAG, National Council for Children (NCC), Cable & Wireless, Barclays, DHL Express, KimKoon Motors, BRIDGESTONE, H.Savy Insurance Co. Ltd., and Spondloco Boutique.

Seychelles entered the world of events in earnest this year after President James Michel launched the โ€œSeychelles Brandโ€ of tourism and after he requested the Tourism Board of the islands to move from selling Seychelles only as a sun, sea, and sand holiday destination. This saw the launch of the highly successful March โ€œCarnaval International de Victoria,โ€ which is now known across the four corners of the world as the unique carnival of carnivals because the best and known carnivals of the world all descend on Seychelles to parade side by side with cultural groups from the Community of Nations.
