Bandar Seri Begawan – After more than 10 months since setting up a shop in Brunei, yacht charter company Dream Charter has acquired a new addition to its fleet after deciding that the market was viable in the country.

The new vessel, SV Jenny, was inaugurated yesterday by Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Hj Yahya Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Dakar at the Kampong Ayer Cultural and Tourism Gallery.

In her remarks, Dream Charter crew Aideen Henry spoke on the growing interest in yacht cruises among domestic tourists.

“Brunei has an encouraging water sports activity sector,” she said. “There is definitely a market here and we have expanded (to cater to the market).”

The 13-metre steel yacht was originally from Finland, but after restoration work by Dream Charter co-founder and skipper Peter Moeller, the ocean-going vessel is now equipped with a table for buffet dining, halal kitchen and can cater up to 25 guests.

An air-conditioned saloon is planned to be added in the second phase of the boat’s restoration work, due to be completed by January 2010, in time for Brunei’s turn to host the Asean Tourism Forum, Henry said.

SV Jenny is Dream Charter’s second vessel, after SV Petima, which can carry a maximum of 15 guests.

While in the presence of Chairman of the Brunei Tourism Board, Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Dato Paduka Hj Hamdillah Hj Abd Wahab, Brunei Tourism CEO Sheikh Jamaluddin Sheikh Mohamed and other tourism stakeholders, Henry also voiced her suggestion that a jetty should be built at Serasa beach. She said that this would allow the public to dock their boats safely.

She also expressed the company’s appreciation for the moral support accorded to them from Brunei Tourism.

She presented the minister with the trophy won by Dream Charter during the Borneo International Yachting Challenge in October, where they bagged two first place positions for Brunei.

The minister and tourism officials also took a cruise on the new vessel around Kg Ayer.
