Bahrain launched its ‘Bahrain: Small is Beautiful’ campaign at the World Travel Market (WTM), the industry’s premier global event, at ExCel London.

A delegation from the Culture and Information Ministry’s Tourism Sector is accompanied by 18 participants from Bahrain’s private sector at the four-day event.

The event has attracted international airlines, hotels and travel/tourism industry leaders from around the world, along with tourism ministers from different countries.

Bahrain is marketing itself as a small but beautiful destination, said Culture and Information Ministry Tourism Sector executive director and adviser Dr Heba Aziz, who is leading the official Bahraini delegation.

‘We are positioning ourselves as a unique destination,’ she said.

‘We are targeting mainly the luxury market. Our focus is on quality rather than quantity.’

Bahrain has been participating for several years in WTM, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, said Dr Aziz.

‘We are trying to activate awareness of Bahrain in the Western market,’ she added.

‘We have still not got our share of the major outbound markets of UK and Germany.’

The international promotion for the Bahrain International Travel Expo (BITE 2010) was also launched at the Bahrain stand at WTM.

BITE 2010 is being held on May 13, 14 and 15, at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre and is being organised by Magnum Events & Exhibition Management (Meem).

Meem executive director Abraham John presented the official brochure for the event to Dr Aziz.

The Tourism Sector delegation also includes acting director of tourism facilities Dr Huda Yusif Al Hamer and senior marketing specialists Essa Hassani and Hassan Al Shehabi.

Civil Aviation Affairs marketing officials Yousif Shehab Ahmed and Waleed Fakhro are also at the Bahrain stand, promoting Bahrain’s aviation services as well as the Bahrain International Air Show, scheduled for January next year.

Hundreds of people have visited the Bahrain stand since the TWM opened on Monday.

A ‘Bahrain Night’ was hosted by Shaftesbury Hotels managing director and vice-president Ramesh Arora, at the group’s newly opened five-star hotel, The Montcalm, at the Marble Arch, London, last night.

The event was hosted in association with the Bahrain Telegraph magazine.

It was attended by all delegates from Bahrain and guests from several countries.
