Cruise.co.uk is celebrating the award of ‘World’s Leading Cruise Agent’, only weeks after winning the European equivalent award.

Each year over 167,000 travel professionals across the World vote in a variety of categories for the very best in the travel industry, from hotels to airlines to travel agents. The primary objective of the World Travel Awards is to drive up standards within the industry, ensuring that brands, large or small, exceed customer expectations. This year’s ‘finals’ were held on Sunday in front of over 500 industry professionals at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The award comes at a time when the cruise market is growing at its fastest rate, with over 1.5 million people expected to have taken a cruise in 2009, and with travel agents becoming even more competitive on pricing and promotions. Cruise.co.uk has built its business by offering double discounts across some of the most popular brands including P&O, Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises, Cunard Line and Fred.Olsen, all supported by one the UK’s most popular web sites which offers over 50,000 impartial cruise related reviews and forums to help passengers select the right cruise and destination.

Commenting on the highly prestigious award, Seamus Conlon, Managing Director, said: “ It’s a fantastic achievement to be named ‘World’s Leading Cruise Agent’ and clearly reflects our position as the largest cruise specific agent in the UK. Whilst we excel in our market we are still small in comparison to many of the players on the UK high street and our competition for the World Award included African Safari Club, Cruise Line, Cruises.com, MSC Cruises, Page and Moy, and Thomas Cook all winners in the regional awards.

“We make up for our size by offering the best prices as well as a vast number of independent and impartial cruise reviews, all generated by over 110,000 registered users of the site. It makes cruise.co.uk the biggest travel website of its type in the UK.

“We share this as a relatively small team beating the biggest travel players in the World –it’s an amazing achievement. As a direct result of winning the World and European Cruise Travel Agent Awards, we are now looking to expand our online agency into Germany and Spain. 2009 has been a great year for cruise.co.uk, with 2010 looking to be our best yet.”
