Connect, learn, grow at Start-Up Innovation Camp 2019 World Tourism Forum Lucerne

Martin Barth, the Head of the World Tourism Forum Lucerne (WTFL) has confirmed that for the 4th time, World Tourism Forum Lucerne (WTFL) is organizing the Start-Up Innovation Camp in Lucerne, Switzerland on May 1-2, 2019. Travel-, tourism- and hospitality-related Start-ups from all over the world have now the opportunity to apply for this competition covered in new vision of something bigger, design and structured application form. Who can apply?

Start-ups younger than 5 years with existing product and first sale and international vision and ambition. WTFL is searching for the most innovative business models, which are creating a big impact in their region.

What is the process?

Start-ups can apply until February 24. The jury members will evaluate the start-up applications and select the finalists. The jury will select 15 finalist, which will be invited to pitch in front of international investors, industry executives and experts at Start-Up Innovation Camp 2019 in Lucerne on May 1-2, 2019. All the finalists also receive free entry to WTFL 2019 on May 2-3, 2019 where they can meet the most influential industry leaders and listen to diverse panels and inspiring speeches, as well as attend personalized workshops. Finally, the jury will select 5 winners (each in one category) based on their live elevator pitches and Q&A.

What are their benefits?

Each category winner will receive Start-Up Innovation Award of US$20,000, “5 Minutes of Fame” at the main stage of WTFL 2019, 2-year coaching program with experienced industry executive, free participation for WTFL 2021, and WTFL Start-Up Alumni network membership.

What is the program?

Exciting and interactive elevator pitches will take place on 1 May 2019 and are open to public. The public has an important role, as they can ask questions as well as determine the “Public Prize Winner” with the special prize. On 2 May 2019, start-ups will receive personalized advice and feedback at 1:1 Coaching Talks with industry experts. This is their chance to improve the skills and take their business to the next level. We are also inviting all the Start-Up Alumni, past finalists and winners, to Start-Up Alumni Meet-up where they can share their experience with young entrepreneurs.

Alain St Ange has been working in the tourism business since 2009. He was appointed as the Director of Marketing for Seychelles by President and Minister of Tourism James Michel. In 2012 the Indian Ocean Vanilla Islands regional Organization was formed and St Ange was appointed as the first president of the organization. In a 2012 cabinet re-shuffle, St Ange was appointed as Minister of Tourism and Culture which he resigned on 28 December 2016 in order to pursue a candidacy as Secretary General of the World Tourism Organisation. At the UNWTO General Assembly in Chengdu in China, a person who was being sought after for the “Speakers Circuit” for tourism and sustainable development was Alain St.Ange. St.Ange is the former Seychelles Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine who left office in December last year to run for the position of Secretary General of the UNWTO. When his candidature or document of endorsement was withdrawn by his country just a day before the elections in Madrid, Alain St.Ange showed his greatness as a speaker when he addressed the UNWTO gathering with grace, passion, and style. His moving speech was recorded as the one on the best marking speeches at this UN international body. African countries often remember his Uganda address for the East Africa Tourism Platform when he was a guest of honor. As former Tourism Minister, St.Ange was a regular and popular speaker and was often seen addressing forums and conferences on behalf of his country. His ability to speak ‘off the cuff’ was always seen as a rare ability. He often said he speaks from the heart. In Seychelles he is remembered for a marking address at the official opening of the island’s Carnaval International de Victoria when he reiterated the words of John Lennon famous song… ” you may say I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one. One day you will all join us and the world will be better as one”. The world press contingent gathered in Seychelles on the day ran with the words by St.Ange which made headlines everywhere. St.Ange delivered the keynote address for the “Tourism & Business Conference in Canada” Seychelles is a good example for sustainable tourism.
