The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) announced the appointments of 2 new directors to fill key vacant posts. The Barbadian Neil Walters has been confirmed as director of finance and resource management while his compatriot, Winfield Griffith, is the new director of research and information technology.
Both men have been acting in the respective positions for several months. Mr. Griffith took responsibility for the division upon the sudden passing of his predecessor, Arley Sobers, in August last year, and Mr. Walters assumed leadership of the organizationโs finances last December when the long-serving Luther Miller went on pre-retirement leave.
โThese two gentlemen have performed admirably during the period in which they acted in their positions, and their appointments are well deserved,โ said Corthwright Marshall, chairman of the CTO board of directors.
โBoth men are very skilled and competent individuals with vast institutional knowledge of, and experience with, the CTO. The appointments from within the staff is testimony to the high quality of the technical team at the organization,โ the board chairman said.
As head of research and information technology, Mr. Griffith will have overall responsibility for managing the CTOโs regional research program and the provision of technical assistance to member countries in the area of tourism statistics. In addition, he has oversight of the organizationโs tourism statistics and information systems, which are now in the process of revision and development, as well as management and development of the various websites.
Mr. Walters, on the other hand, in addition to being the guardian of CTOโs funds, will manage resources from donor agencies, which fund specific projects executed by the CTO.
The announcement was made at the CTO board of directors meeting being held here as part of the CTO business meetings. Both appointments take effect on November 1.
