Halloween fans searching for the perfect break this month may want to consider Croatia, where a pumpkin festival will be held on October 30th and 31st.
The first Bundevdani – which translates as Pumpkin Day – is set for the city of Bjelovar, reports the Croatian Times.
Highlights of the two-day event will include pumpkin carving and the cooking of numerous pumpkin-based dishes.
Festival-goers can even bring their own pumpkin along, with the biggest and most beautiful winning their owner a 500 kunas (ยฃ60) prize.
The Bjelovar Tourist Board said that the city has a long and proud history of using pumpkins in a variety of ways.
It wants to distance itself from the type of Halloween celebrations found in the USA – where emphasis can be placed on ghosts and ghouls.
Carved pumpkins with special lights attached will be paraded through the streets of Bjelovar at 17:00 local time on October 30th.
Similar events to be held in Croatia in recent weeks include the famous Ambienta Wood festival.
