Dunedin is set to experience an influx of tourists during cruise ship season, which opens tomorrow.

Four small ships will make seven visits to Dunedin, and 16 larger vessels will make 46 visits to Port Chalmers, between tomorrow and the 5th of April.

Tourism Dunedin CEO Hamish Saxton says although there aren’t as many cruise visits as planned, the ships are larger and he understands they have particularly good loadings.

Dunedin is the second most visited Port in New Zealand; the most visited is Auckland, which Saxton credits to Dunedin’s proximity to Milford Sound and the city being regarded as particularly cruise-friendly.
