Cornwall Airport Newquay (CAN) is delighted to announce that Scandinavia’s airline, SAS, will commence services from the Airport next summer. Launching 28 June 2019, the Star Alliance member will begin a twice-weekly service from Copenhagen, with this being the first time that Cornwall’s premier gateway has been connected directly with Scandinavia.

Flights will operate on Mondays and Fridays from CAN over the course of the peak summer season. Services will leave CAN at 19:00, while return flights will touch down at 18:20. Operated using 90-seat CRJ 900s, the new service not only opens a direct link between Cornwall and Denmark, but also allows for passengers to connect onto a network of over 70 onward destinations in Europe, Asia and North America via a seamless transfer in Copenhagen, including cites such as Oslo and Stockholm. The new service will generate an additional 2,880 seats from CAN next summer.

Commenting on the announcement, Al Titterington, Managing Director, Cornwall Airport Newquay said: “This is brilliant news not just for the Airport, but the local region of Cornwall and beyond. Adding to our confirmed direct European services to Alicante, Cork, Dublin, Düsseldorf, Faro and Stuttgart next summer, we’re sure that Copenhagen will prove just as popular. This is a route not only for the many Scandinavians wanting to explore Cornwall and the South West of the UK, but also for our local catchment, which now have flights designed perfectly for an extended weekend break in one of Europe’s coolest capital cities.”

Carrying 28.5 million passengers in 2017, SAS is Europe’s ninth largest airline group, with CAN becoming the sixth UK airport, and the only one in the South West of the country, that it serves after Aberdeen, Birmingham, Edinburgh, London Heathrow and Manchester. SAS will become the sixth airline to offer scheduled flights from the Airport, joining the successful operations currently offered by Aer Lingus, Eurowings, Flybe, Isle of Scilly Skybus and Ryanair.
