Hotel Eyja Guldsmeden located in the trendy downtown area of Reykjavik is the first hotel in Iceland to be certified by Green Globe.

Hotel Eyja Guldsmeden is the first hotel in Iceland to be certified by Green Globe. The property is located in the trendy downtown area of Reykjavik with views over the city and the spectacular Mount Esja.

Owners Linda Jรณhannsdรณttir and husband Ellert Finnbogason share years of experience in the hotel business and a passion for providing guests with a pleasant and enjoyable stay in the countryโ€™s capital.

โ€œAt Eyja Guldsmeden we believe quite strongly that weโ€™re able to offer our guests the best possible experience and personal service while minimizing our impact on the planet and enhancing their health,โ€ said Ms Jรณhannsdรณttir, CEO of Hotel Eyja Guldsmeden.

This Nordic haven combines modern conveniences with the benefits of sustainable best practice, all located within a unique destination. Iceland is renowned for its pure water and unpolluted climate, and recognized for quality naturally grown, fresh and organic food production. At Eyja Guldsmeden the emphasis is on local and organic food products and environmental responsibility. Fair-trade and eco-certified suppliers are used almost exclusively, and the hotel will usually choose not to have certain products or services rather than compromise its integrity.

Most goods are purchased locally and delivered by car or bike once a week to limit the propertyโ€™s carbon footprint. Eyja Hotel has its own carrier bicycle that is used for additional light shopping such as buying bread and pastry made from organic ingredients.

โ€œWe encourage guests to use hotel bikes instead of cars or even walk โ€“ which gives them the chance to breathe the clean, fresh Icelandic air, and of course all water should be drunk straight from the tap. We have exceptionally pure and clean water to enjoy free of charge in Iceland,โ€ Ms. Jรณhannsdรณttir added.

As part of the hotelโ€™s communication strategy, all information is disseminated through its CO2-neutral website and social media, and all printed matter is eco-certified.

Other sustainable initiatives have been implemented that lessen environmental impacts and reduce the generation of waste. All bathroom products are organic and sustainably packaged. In addition, a majority of suppliers deliver products in crates and cases, which are reused and taken back while retired bed linen, duvets and towels are given a second life and sewn into pillow covers or donated to charity.
