Acting permanent secretary for foreign affairs and civil aviation Isikeli Mataitoga said a memorandum of understanding on air services has been signed between Fiji and Papua New Guinea. This will allow an easier traveling route between Nadi and Port Moresby instead of going through Brisbane.

The agreement is for more flying capacity for national carrier Air Pacific and Papua New Guinea’s Air Niugini.

Papua New Guinea’s acting director of foreign affairs and trade Jimmy Ovia said the airfares are much cheaper than going to Australia for their people, and Papua New Guinea maintains a very cordial relationship with Fiji.

Mataitoga said this has paved the way for tourism and necessary structures for infrastructure.
