The earthquake was strongest in Ucayali. Ucayal is an inland region in Peru. Located in the Amazon rainforest, its name is derived from the Ucayali River. The regional capital is the city of Pucallpa.

The location is in the jungle border region and a region with only smaller villages.

  • 226.1 km (140.2 mi) W of Brasilia, Brazil

At this time there are no reports of injuries or death.

The 7.1 magnitude earthquake rocked Peru early this morning at the Brazil border. The massive quake hit at 4am local time.
