With Labor Day looming closer, an all-American road trip with friends or family to the Big Apple should definitely be on the cards.

The late Nora Ephron was an American journalist, writer, and filmmaker who summed New York City up perfectly when she said, “I look out the window, and I see the lights and the skyline and the people on the street rushing around looking for action, love, and the world’s greatest chocolate chip cookie, and my heart does a little dance.” With Labor Day looming closer, and with it being considered the last celebration in the city for summer, an all-American road trip with friends or family to the Big Apple should definitely be on the cards. Regardless of where your journey starts, prepare yourself for Labor Day celebrations unlike any you have experienced upon your arrival in NYC.

Join in on the Labor Day celebrations

While visits to the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building will undoubtedly be on your road trip itinerary, there is a mound of other interesting and exciting Labor Day activities beckoning. If you are a fan of electronic dance music you will be happy to learn that Electric Zoo 2018 is poised to take over the Labor Day weekend, promising an electrifying experience to fans flocking to Randalls Island. If you are more of a sport than a music fan, why not head on out to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to catch the top tennis players in the world competing in the annual US Open which takes place from August 27 to September 9, this year. You truly will be spoiled for choice on Labor Day as The West Indian Day Parade and carnival, which draws close to 2 million people, is considered to be one of the best parades in NYC. The festivities surrounding the parade will give you a glimpse into the city’s diverse culture and heritage, encouraging you to become even more closely acquainted with the city that never sleeps. Depending on how long you are planning to stay in the city, you might even be able to squeeze in all three of these suggestions as both the US Open and Electric Zoo run for longer than a single day.

Indulge in authentic NYC cuisine

When in NYC you have to eat like New Yorkers do. Apart from being hailed the fashion capital of the USA, NYC is also renowned for its delectable array of food. Regardless of where in the Big Apple your road trip takes you, you are bound to found enticing New York cuisine that will undoubtedly make your mouth water.

Waffles and burgers make for a fine treat

If you are a fan of waffles then the Wafels and Dinges food truck should top your list of places to visit during the Labor Day celebrations. With toppings such as bacon, peanut butter & banana, salmon & cheese, and pear & blueberry crumble to choose from, you might just find yourself returning a second or third time during your trip. If you prefer burgers over waffles and you have to head over to Diner in Williamsburg for a unique dining experience. Located in an old dining car, the restaurant’s menu (that changes nightly) gets scribbled onto a paper tablecloth. There is one item that doesn’t change and that is the one to go for: the burger. The Classic Diner Burger consists of a thick, juicy piece of meat, a topping of sharp cheese, a freshly-baked bun and thick, crispy fries. There are, of course, countless other eateries worth a visit in NYC with these just being two of the most popular.

Whether you visit New York City for a month, a week or even just the Labor Day weekend you will undoubtedly be drawn in by its incomparable charm. When taking your NYC-bound road trip be prepared to fall hopelessly and unequivocally in love with one of the most incredible destinations not only in the USA but in the entire world as well.
