Green Globe certified Lefay Resorts has released its Sustainability Report for 2017, highlighting the Companyโ€™s ongoing dedication to protecting the environment.

Liliana Leali, CEO of Lefay Resorts said, โ€œWe hope that this Sustainability Report, drawn up according to the G4 guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative and certified by the TรœV SรœD certification institute, can continue to drive a responsible and innovative business culture that will be further confirmed within our next ambitious projects.โ€

2017 has been an important year for the Company. The resort remained carbon neutral and reduced its water and energy consumption, while for the first time welcoming over 50,000 Guests. Lefay Resorts Group also announced details of their second property, Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti, which will be opening in 2019 in Pinzolo, within the Madonna di Campiglio ski area. Within the development, the Company will be offering ‘serviced branded residences’ combining the comfort of a home with the services of a five-star spa hotel.

The newly-released annual Sustainability Report – their fourth – outlines achievements over the past year and future objectives, creating an effective tool for managing, reporting and developing environmental, social and economic sustainability goals. Key figures from the 2017 report include:

– 50,106 overnight guests

– 100% of CO2 emitted by the resort is compensated via the purchase of CER credits

– Lefay employs 164 staff, 68% of employees come from the local area

– 16 international awards, among these are the ‘Best SPA in the World’ won at the World Boutique Hotel Awards and ‘Best SPA in Europeโ€™ won at the European Health & SPA Awards

– Two new environmental certifications: the bio certification of the extra virgin olive oils “Cuveรจ” and “Monocultivar Gargnร ” and the denomination IGP (Indicazione Geografica Protetta), which guarantees a product whose quality, recipe and characteristics can be traced back to its geographical region, for Lefay Tuscan olive oil

Total Compensation of the Resort’s CO2 Emissions

Since 2013, Lefay Resort & SPA has been carbon neutral. Every year, Lefay Resort & SPA calculates its carbon footprint by monitoring its direct CO2 emissions and those of travelling guests. These are then offset through the purchase of CER credits (in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol), intended to reduce emissions in Italy and in developing countries. This voluntary agreement sees 100% of the CO2 emitted by the resort offset using this method.

People

At Lefay, staff satisfaction is as important as guest satisfaction. Each year the Company invests in employee training and selection. In 2017, the property reached 164 employees (a growth of 20% compared to 2016). 68% of the total team comes from the local area and the county of Brescia.

Reduction of environmental impact

Particularly impressive for 2017 is the reduction in energy consumption in comparison to increased growth in the number of guest nights. Heat energy usage decreased with a consumption of 127 Mwh per person, highlighting the success of the different measures the resort has put in place to ensure energy efficiency. Water consumption also dropped by 1%, despite the growth in guest numbers and a summer drought. This is an important achievement as there is a water shortage in the Riviera dei Limoni on Lake Garda.

Supporting the local destination

Lefay supports important sport and cultural events within the local community as well as various non-profit associations that operate within these main areas.
