The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival which will be from the 22nd – 24th of June at the Central Harbourfront and Victoria Harbour. The CCB (Asia) Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races will host over 4,500 athletes from all over the world to compete at the Victoria Harbour.
The Dragon Boat Festival, organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is commonly associated with sunny, energy-filled summer days and adrenaline-pumping dragon boat races. As a global metropolis, Hong Kong is well-known for transforming Chinese and Western festivals into exhilarating and lively events, and the Dragon Boat Festival is certainly no exception. With the Dragon Boat Festival and a series of other celebrations happening in June, it is a great time for visitors to come to Hong Kong to experience the city’s diverse cultural and festive appeal.
If one is planning a trip to Hong Kong in June, the Dragon Boat Carnival is a celebration not to be missed. Organised by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and co-organised by the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association (HKCDBA), the Carnival will return in its 9th edition from 22nd to 24th June (Friday to Sunday) at the Central Harbourfront and Victoria Harbour. In addition to the thunderous boom of beating drums and splashing waves in the Dragon Boat races, the three-day Carnival will feature fun-filled elements, with local delicacies, music and entertainment, guaranteeing a variety of great summer fun for visitors.
In addition to the races on the harbour there will be number of events onshore which will be set up on the central Harbourfront, allowing members of the public to indulge in sunbathing right in the heart of the city. There will be live music performances at the carnival in the evenings to keep visitors entertained. Food trucks will serve local delicacies and refreshing drinks; and special offers will be introduced at the event.
On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, more dragon boat races will be staged in various districts in Hong Kong, including Stanley, Tai Po, Sha Tin, Tuen Mun, Sai Kung and Aberdeen. And after the Festival throughout the summer, other dragon boat races will be held to further extend the festive ambience.
Apart from the dragon boat races the carnival will be a culinary treat, rice dumpling is a must-try traditional delicacy for visitors. Many restaurants in Hong Kong still serve this traditional local delicacy, including Ka Woo, a 70-year old Shanghainese restaurant located in Nam Shan Estate in Sham Shui Po, well-known for its hand-made dumplings. Visitors are invited to pay the restaurant a visit to give this traditional local delicacy a try.
