As a rule, most Indian hotel chains, except the major ones like Oberoi and the Taj, have shied away from entering foreign shores, although Indian hospitality professionals can be found in most corners of the world and on cruise lines. Of course, there are exceptions, and this particular luxury hotel chain proves that.

The chain, founded by Vithal Kamat, has ventured into Thailand with hotels in Phuket and now has plans to open 15 operating hotels in Malaysia and Thailand with an inventory in excess of 1,000 rooms.

Within India, VITS, the luxury hotel chain promoted by the famed Kamat family, is currently on an expansion spree and has just opened a 37-room VITS Mango Blossom hotel in Sector 14 of Gurugram near Delhi and has a presence in most parts of the country. Culinary delights and professionalism are in focus at VITS, with hotels in Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Bhubaneshwar, Agra, Aurangabad, Dwarka, Latur, Silvasa, Goa, and Konarak, among other places.

VITS has grown steadily over the years and now caters to an ever-increasing number of Indian domiciles abroad who have a ravenous and keen appetite for Indian cuisines, particularly of the Udupi variety. They have catered in prestigious hotels like Chandini (in Belgium); Delhi Durbar, India Coffee House, Khyber, and Sanman (all in Dubai); The Namaskar Chain (in Sandai and Tokyo, Japan); Kamats of India (in Singapore); Shan, Diwana, and The India Coffee House (all in the United Kingdom); Earthen Pot in Atlanta, Georgia, India Coffee House at Flushing, New York, Natraj at Jacksonite, New York, and Moghul Mahal at Boston, Massachusetts (all in the United States of America).

Today, with a turnover of over Rs. 80 crores (2006-2007) and approximately 10,000 shareholders after being listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange, the group is considered a massive hospitality business group in India. They have a vested interest in the luxury hotel chain, as well as budget hotels, travel businesses, departmental stores, and, of course, restaurants.

Vithal Kamat, the man behind the chain, is a well-known name in the hospitality industry, and he is a good singer and dancer to boot! Vikram Kamat is the son of Vithal, the chief mentor of the Kamat Group. He is a leader from the Mumbai Catering Institute.
