For the first time in travel history in Asia, as many as eleven countries have come forward together to form Tour Asia Group (TAG) this year in Thailand.

The objective of TAG is to promote each other in their home countries, as well as in the global market with the aim to pave way to increase business for each other in these difficult economic times. Given the current troubled world economic scenario that is expected to continue well into 2009 and beyond, international tourism is expected to stagnate according to UNWTO sources. Thus, such a platform as TAG is an ideal tool to help drive, facilitate, and share intelligence and resources among these countries to stimulate tourism.

TAG had its first launch board meeting at the Ramada hotel in Bangkok on June 19, 2009 with a vision to create Asiaโ€™s largest tour network. TAG partners are represented by the leading tour operators from the following countries:

Thailand โ€“ Thai Sky Travel group
India – Special Holidays Travel Pvt Ltd.
Maldives โ€“ Inner Maldives Holidays Pvt Ltd.
Bhutan โ€“ Special Holidays Travel Pvt Ltd.
Cambodia โ€“ Sky Cambodia Travel
Indonesia – R.K.Travel & Group of Companies
Malaysia โ€“ Paradise Travel
Nepal – Special Holidays Travel Pvt Ltd .
Philippines โ€“ Shroff International Travel Care, Inc.
Sri Lanka โ€“ Crystal Holidays Pvt Ltd.
Vietnam โ€“ Vie Travel

TAG partners are all well-established travel companies in their respective destinations, and the team was able to formulate, plan, and conclude unanimously the economic benefits that each TAG country member will gain through formation of TAG. This includes an increase in sales, promoting their destinations, promotions and sales through TAG brochures, online and offline promotions, and organizing special FAM trips for the media and travel industry at large. Specialized tour packages, hotels, car rental, cruise and airline bookings, and other tourism products with some exclusive features will be offered and launched to the global travel market in due course. TAG is also launching new concepts of country combined packages to the worldwide market for Asia tours under one umbrella of TAG.

TAG comes together again next month in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur from September 4-6 at the MATTA Fair. The MATTA Fair is the no. 1 consumer travel and tourism fair in Malaysia and is an established event widely recognized and supported by exhibitors and consumers. The MATTA Fair ’09 will showcase a wide and comprehensive choice of travel and holiday products from all over the world in one venue.

The Kuala Lumpur fair is expected to attract over 100,000 visitors and over 800 participants from all over the world. And TAG hopes this will be another history-in-the-making opportunity for them and a stepping stone for their overall mission in promoting their respective destinations.
