Hugh Jackman – new face of Australian tourism?

He comes from a land down under and now he may be more closely intertwined with his homeland than ever.

He comes from a land down under and now he may be more closely intertwined with his homeland than ever. Hollywood heartthrob Hugh Jackman is the number one choice to be the new spokesperson for Australian tourism.

Beating out such recognizable faces as Bindi Irwin, daughter of the Crocodile Hunter, and model Jennifer Hawkins, the X-Men star is expected to be well received by both Australians and Americans. His recent role in Baz Lurhmanโ€™s epic Australia, with fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman, already ties him to the Outback in the minds of many fans.

Jackman would follow model Lara Bingleโ€™s โ€œWhere the bloody hell are you?โ€ campaign. Before Bingle, Crocodile Dundee Paul Hogan invited tourists to โ€œThrow another shrimp on the Barbie.โ€ According to Angela Saurine at news.com.au, Tourism Australia is currently working with advertising agency DDB to develop the next campaign.

With flight prices to Australia at an all-time low, there has never been a better time to take a trip down under. Now when boarding a Quantas flight bound for Syndey, you may open a brochure with Jackmanโ€™s smiling face on the cover.
