Yesterday saw the American music legend Dionne Warwick and the Soca Queen from Trinidad, Lima Calbio, land in Seychelles just in time for the opening ceremony of the 2011 Seychelles “Carnival International de Victoria.” Both stars were met by Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, on their arrival at the airport.
Dionne Warwick is in Seychelles as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nation’s Food and Agricultural Organization, and she will be taking part as heading the organization’s float in the carnival’s parade. Dionne will also be delivering an address at the opening ceremony of the carnival at 6:00 pm on Friday, March 4. Lima Calbio, on the other hand, is in Seychelles to fly the Trinidad & Tobago flag at the carnival parade, and she will be the star on a float from these sister islands.
“It is the first visit to Seychelles for both these known personalities, and we want to ensure they get to see our country so that when they leave our shores, after the carnival, they will become true ambassadors of the Seychelles,” Alain St.Ange said to the press after their arrival.
