Promotion of large-scale events
The Minister of Culture and president of the Tourism Entity of Buenos Aires signed a treaty with representatives of ArteBa, the Week of Art, Gallery Nights, the Book Fair, the Night of Museums and the International Festivals of the City of Buenos Aires to strengthen and create synergize with the promotion and positioning of the city as a cultural destination abroad.
Record of passengers in 2007
Almost 18 million people passed through the airports administered by Aeropuertos Argentinos 200.
Promotes cultural tourism
The International Cinema Festival of Punta del Este, that will be held between February 17th and 24th, will generate cultural tourism in this edition.
First gay cruise departs from Rio during the carnival
A virtual travel agency will carry out Brazil’s first gay cruise. The twelve-day route of the Infinity cruiser will depart from Rio de Janeiro, where it will stay during the three carnival days, stopping over in Buzios, Santos, Porto Belo and Florianopolis, continuing on to Punta del Este and Montevideo, in Uruguay, to arrive in Buenos Aires.
Gol signed an agreement with KLM
Gol signed an interline agreement with KLM, effective as from January 17th, by which KLM passengers will be able to buy tickets for the 60 destinations served by Gol.
Tourist infrastructure will be expanded
Oruro began the expansion of its tourist infrastructure with the implementation of eight new projects, such as the network of rural complexes, museums, recreational centers, parks and others which are included in an investment stage.
LAB-AS on stand-by to fly
In the first days of February, AS and LAB could commence their operations, prior granting of their commercial licenses.
Received 160 thousand luxury tourists in 2007
Peru received approximately 160 thousand luxury tourists in 2007, who spent an average of US$1,000 daily.
US$70 million investment planned for hotels
In the next two years, Cusco will benefit with an investment in luxury hotel infrastructure of at least US$70 million.
Sky Airline receives a frequency to Lima
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of Peru granted Sky Airline the authorization to operate seven weekly flights to Lima in the Santiago-Iquique-Lima route. It also received an increase in the frequencies that it actually operates between Arica and Arequipa, going from three to four per week.
Eco Inn Cusco will be inaugurated in February
Econ Inn Hotels will inaugurate its four-star hotel in Cusco on February 15th. It is a minimalist style hotel and has 167 ample rooms.
Radisson Hotels will open hotels in Lima
The chain announced the coming opening of two new hotels: on February 15th, it will open the Radisson Decapolis Hotel Miraflores, in Lima, while the Radisson Hotel & Suites will also open in the middle of next month.
Peru Rail among the 25 best world adventures
The International Society of Train Travelers, of the United States, published in its magazine’s special edition the list of the 25 best world train adventures, among which are the Hiram Bingham and the Andean explorer, of Peru Rail, in Peru.
International arrivals increased in 2007
Ecuador closed 2007 with 953,196 arrivals of foreign visitors, a 13.40% increase with respect to 2006.
Traffic between Colombia and Spain increased
At the end of 2007, Iberia transported 208,000 passengers between the two countries, 10.2 percent more than the previous year.
Avianca will fly between Bogota and San Jose
Avianca is preparing to open a Bogota-San Jose (Costa Rica) route, after receiving a temporary three month permit to start operations.
The country’s most important tourist event is finalizing details for the celebration of its twenty-seventh edition which will take place in Corterias from February 25 to 27.
New governmental entity
A new independent state entity will govern Panama’s booming tourist industry. The law draft plan that establishes the Panamanian Tourist Authority, in place of the Panamanian Tourism Institute, was handed over to businessmen of the sector’s different branches for their suggestions.
Participation in Fitur
Panamanian hotel representatives, real estate projects and tourist operators will participate in the International Tourism Fair.
Government promotes works
The government plans to promote tourism in the coastal localities of Managua Lake, with an investment of more than one million dollars.
Expansion of airports
The Autonomous Port Executive Commission will invest US$39.1 million in the expansion of the passenger terminal of the international airport between 2008 and 2009.
United suspends operations
The airline gave instructions to its reservation staff to inform that it will not be able to fly from El Salvador to Los Angeles, USA as from March 1.
Entry of tourists increased
Last year, Costa Rica received 1.9 million tourists, an 11.59% increase compared to 2006.
Air Caraibes’s first flight landed
The French airline’s first flight arrived at the Juan Santamaria, of San Jose, airport. The airline will offer two weekly flights to the country, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Investment in new hotel complex
The construction of the Hyatt Regency Azulera hotel complex in the Brasilito beach, in Guanacaste, in which US$300 million will be invested, was started. The complex will have 215 rooms and 100 condominiums.
Tourist Investment Fair
In February, the tourist authorities and businessmen will carry out the third edition of the Costa Rican Fair of Tourist Investment. The event will take place on February 20th and 21st.
Roatan will receive 500,000 cruise travelers
The island, the only Central American tourist destination recommended by the North American newspaper The New York Times to visit in 2008, will this year receive 500,000 tourists that will be transported by 12 different companies.
Hotel chains will invest US$500 million
Local and international hotel chains such as Grupo Posadas, Intercontinental Hotels and Marriott will invest this year more than US$ 500 million for the construction of new establishments in Merida.
Aeromexico will enter the charter flights market
Aeromexico will enter the charter flights market with the forthcoming beginning of the airline specialized in this area of the market: Aeromexico Travel. As yet there is no exact date for the beginning of the service.
