British Airways today announced the appointment of Mr. Simon Smith as direct sales and marketing manager for southeast Asia. Based in Singapore, Mr. Smith will also work in the same capacity for Qantas and is in charge of direct sales activities involving ba.com, CallBA, qantas.com, and telephone sales Australia. He will also take the lead in developing, coordinating, and running marketing initiatives undertaken for both airlines in the region.

At Qantas, Mr. Smith previously served as a business project manager, on initiatives aimed at transforming the airlineโ€™s business for a sustainable future. This included a broad range of activities from supply-chain optimization to coordinating the creation of new subsidiary businesses. Mr. Smith has also served in various commercial positions for Qantas.

โ€œWith over 17 yearsโ€™ experience serving multiple roles at Qantas, coupled with his vast expertise and leadership qualities, Simon will bring great value to our company in this new role. In challenging times like these, we are confident that Simon will continue to establish strong business relationships and help us maintain our business performance in southeast Asia,โ€ said a British Airways spokesperson.

Mr. Smith joined Qantas in 1992 and holds a Bachelor of Business in International Business Management. He moved to Singapore in May of this year to assume his new role, together with his wife and two children aged six and one.
