A cargo plane belonging to Astral reportedly had a landing mishap last night at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), blocking the runway when eventually coming to a halt.

It was confirmed by sources at JKIA that as a precaution all incoming flights were notified and told to hold or else be diverted to either Mombasa or other alternate airports within reach for inbound planes, while all departures from JKIA would be delayed until until the runway had been cleared. That took place within the hour, when the plane, which had burst a tire on landing, was towed off the runway and normal operations could then proceed.

Delays, according to an operations source at the airport, were minimal and by morningm full service had been resumed with all flights in and out of Nairobi on schedule.
