Warning to all U.S. members of Congress after killing in Arizona

Moments later she was gunned down at a Safeway Supermarket in Tucson. Giffords, 40, a Democrat, serves the 8th Congressional District.

U.S.Capitol Police issued an urgent warning to all U.S. members of Congress: All remembers of congress are advices to take reasonable security at home and in public.

U.S. President Obama made a statements along with other U.S. government officials.

Nineteen people were shot, including members of Giffords staff. Five people are dead.
The shooter was arrested. It’s reported authorities are looking for a second suspect.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that it is investigating a multiple shooting at a Safeway in northwest Tucson at Ina and Oracle roads.
Five others have been reportedly killed.

Arizona state Sen. Linda Lopez, who is at University Medical Center in Tucson, said she spoke to Giffords’ parents and that they said she is in the emergency room undergoing surgery and is in very serious condition.
A man who works at Sprint store nearby told CNN he heard 15 to 20 shots, and there are two bodies on the ground in front of the Safeway. He said people were screaming that “Gabrielle Giffords has been shot.”

The Associated Press said the lawmaker was meeting with constituents, according to congressional officials. The officials said the wounded included some of Gifford’s aides, who were with her at the time.

The officials who described the events did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not permitted to comment publicly.

Giffords was re-elected to her third term last November. She was a member of the Arizona House and Senate before coming to Washington.

She first won election to Congress amid a wave of Democratic victories in 2006. In November, she edged a tea party favorite.
