The president of newly-formed Hawaii Tourism Association (HiTA), Mr. Juergen Thomas Steinmetz, has been selected to become a member of the US Department of Commerce Export Council for the Pacific and appointed to lead the council’s tourism sub-committee.

โ€œI am very honored that the US Department of Commerce Export Council has bestowed me with such an important role,โ€ said Steinmetz. โ€œI have a lot of ideas that I want to help implement not only because of the current challenges but also to make sure that Hawaii Tourism and opportunities in Guam and Saipan remain in the forefront of the global marketplace.โ€

According to Mr. Steinmetz, HiTA is developing a strategy to facilitate interaction between Hawaii, Guam, and Saipan tourism players and emerging markets such as Singapore, India, European Union countries, and the Gulf region.

โ€œThe aim, of course, is to open up untapped markets and create new opportunities for our region,โ€ he added. โ€œI would very much like to encourage members of the local tourism industry to work with HiTA on educational and communication projects for these markets.โ€

The HiTA president added that those who are interested may contact HiTA at [email protected] or call 1-808-566-9900.
