Guangzhou tourism to benefit greatly from Asian Games, Para Games

The Asian Games and Asian Para Games will lift Guangzhou’s tourism industry to new heights, with the city’s tourism revenue in 2010 expected to hit a new high and exceed 100 billion U.S. dollars, an official from the Tourism Administration of Guangzhou Municipality said at a press conference on Oct. 28.

In the first three quarters of 2010, the number of foreign visitors to Guangzhou totaled 1.6 million, up more than 22 percent compared to the same period of last year, with tourism revenue climbing nearly 23 percent from a year earlier to 68.6 billion yuan.

In addition, 897,000 visitors were from other Asian countries, up nearly 24 percent from last year, accounting for 56 percent of the total number of foreign visitors.

At present, there are 36 designated hotels for the two games in Guangzhou, with the Garden Hotel serving as the Olympic Council of Asia’s Headquarters Hotel, the University Town International Hotel as the Youth Camp Designated Hotel, and the Star River Hotel as the Headquarters Hotel for the Asian Para Games. The designated hotels are fully prepared to provide comfortable accommodations for guests from all around the world.
