Iran has registered the ancient site of Mehregan Park in the southern province of Fars on the country’s National Heritage List.

Named by locals after a nearby park, the 1.5-meter high site is located near Pasargadae and spans an area of 7,500 square meters.

The site houses ruins dating to the Achaemenid era (248 BCE- 224 CE) and archeological excavations in the area have yielded numerous graves as well as glazed and plain earthenware.

Two irrigation channels, beige-colored shards were also found at the site along with a number of earthenware bearing geometrical patterns.

Iran’s Fars Province boasts numerous historical sites, including Persepolis, Pasargadae and Bishapur.
