New chief information officer at Virgin America

Virgin America announced today the appointment of Ravi Simhambhatla as the company’s new vice president and chief information officer (CIO).

Virgin America announced today the appointment of Ravi Simhambhatla as the company’s new vice president and chief information officer (CIO). Simhambhatla joined Virgin America in early 2006 and most recently served as the company’s acting CIO from November 2008 to present. Simhambhatla has played a leading role in managing the new airline’s strategic technology initiatives, including the development of Virgin America’s data centers, storage subsystems, core application infrastructure and integration, and the architecture of its award-winning, user-friendly web site.

“Ravi has played a critical role in developing Virgin America’s innovative, cost-effective technology platforms from prior to the airline’s launch,” said Virgin America CEO and president David Cush. “In addition to a wealth of experience, Ravi brings a unique perspective to the challenge of reinventing the typical domestic airline interface for the better. His inventiveness and focus on creating streamlined, practical systems that improve the business, guest, and user experience have and will continue to be a tremendous asset to our company. An industry veteran with more than 18 years of experience, Simhambhatla’s experience reflects a broad cross-section of disciplines, including software development methodologies, project management, performance management, systems development, data/application architecture, and ERP and CRM applications. Simhambhatla originally joined Virgin America as director of architecture and integration in 2006. Prior to joining Virgin America, Simhambhatla served as the director of global applications at Aspect Communications in Silicon Valley from 2004 to 2006, where his portfolio included systems architecture, application engineering and sustenance in the enterprise financial systems, and customer relationship management areas. Prior to Aspect, Simhambhatla served as the senior manager of ERP and CRM systems at Legato Systems in Silicon Valley from 1998 to 2008.

Simhambhatla graduated with a bachelor of science degree in computer science from Richmond College, London in 1991. Simhambhatla has lived in Europe, Africa, and south Asia and resides with his wife and two daughters in Sunnyvale, California.
