ORLANDO, Fla. – AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., today announced plans to expand its popular service to Puerto Rico with twice daily flights from Tampa, Fla.
The new flights, which will begin on April 5, 2011, join the low-cost leader’s extensive Caribbean schedule, including extremely popular flights to San Juan from Orlando.
“As a Florida-based airline and one that has been operating from Tampa since 1993, we are excited to announce this expanded service and believe the local business and leisure community will support and benefit greatly from quality low fare competition on this route,” said Kevin Healy, AirTran Airways’ senior vice president of marketing and planning. “There are tremendous synergies between Central Florida and Puerto Rico. San Juan is one of our most popular destinations from Orlando and we are confident it will be an extremely popular destination from Tampa as well.”
