Malta, an archipelago in the middle of the Mediterranean, invites you to start your summer in May! This is when Malta’s festivities heat up with music, culture, and art all surrounding the celebration of Valletta, the 2018 European Capital of Culture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the beginning of May, visitors can explore the historic past and vibrant present through various events and activities happening in Malta and Gozo.

Valletta 2018 Events:

Valletta Green Festival – May 3 – 6
Visit St George’s Square in Valletta for the “Valletta Green Festival,” where one of the largest urban spaces in Valletta will be transformed into an enormous floral carpet composed of 80,000 potted plants.

Performances – Altofest Malta – Now – May 13
Come experience performances from diverse backgrounds at “Altofest Malta.” Malta’s citizens will be hosting international artists in their homes, which will then become venues that welcome audiences for diverse performances. This event will span across four different regions in Malta.

Solar Cinema – May 3
Film lovers attending the Valletta Green Festival can watch screenings for short films, animations, and more, focusing on the theme of sustainability and the environment which will be happening in public spaces all across Malta and Gozo.

Dinner Theater – Cantina – May 11 – 13
For those who enjoy a dinner and a show come experience it at “Cantina” based on Brecht’s Saint Joan of the Stockyards in Ta’ Qali.

Earth Garden Festival – May 31 – June 3
Close off the month with the “Earth Garden Festival,” starting on the 31st and running up to June 3 in Ta’ Qali. The Festival brings an array of alternative music to the already legendary summers, with 5 music areas, over 30 international acts, 150 artists, camping, food stalls and an ethnic market.

Malta and Gozo Events:

Gozo Alive – May 18 – 20
A culture filled day and evening, that will alight Gozo and delight visitors. Bands, musical performances, re-enactments, fireworks, art exhibitions, dance, short-film screenings, and guided tours. Gozo Alive will offer a program of events that will surly entertain and present Gozo, and exciting way for everyone to enjoy.

Music – Amalgama – May 26
Explore a collaboration between pianist Gabi Sultana and visual artist Mark Dingli who will bring us “Amalgama,” an exploration of minimalistic works by contemporary composers such as John Cage and Philip Glass, amongst others. Amalgama will be held on May 26 at Lascaris Wharf in Valletta.

Classic & Vintage Cars – Valletta Concours d’Elegance – May 12 – 20
Classic and vintage car enthusiasts should embark on a journey to St. George Square in Valletta, from May 12 to the 20 to experience the cars of their dreams.

Malta Fashion Week – May 26
Starting May 26 in Fort St. Elmo, Valletta Malta’s top-shelf talent and international fashion industries will be unveiling their newest line. This is one event you don’t want to miss.
