Istanbul, the only city in the world bridging the two continents of Europe and Asia, has over 2 500 years of history, culture and traditions. The 5-star Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul is located in the heart of the city’s contemporary business and chic shopping district. It is situated next to the metro station with easy access to fashionable shopping malls, Taksim and other exotic Istanbul attractions.

Green Globe recently recertified Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul for the seventh consecutive year and awarded the property a high compliance score of 93%.

Management and staff work closely to achieve sustainability goals that continue to focus on the reduction of energy and water consumption and waste volume. Green measures include the installation of LED lighting and use of room keycards that when removed automatically turn off power. Water usage has also decreased through the installation of water saving devices on shower heads and taps and the linen and towel reuse program.

Waste management strategies are wide ranging and bring environmental and social benefits. Staff members and guests are encouraged to segregate waste and the property’s recycling program includes paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, glass, printer cartridges, all types of batteries and used oil. Eco friendly chemicals are used in all hotel operations to minimize environmental impacts. And kitchens go one step further by separating and collecting food waste for animal feed which is then given to the local municipality that distributes it to animal shelters.

To stimulate regional economic development as well as assist in reducing the property’s carbon footprint, Mövenpick Hotel Istanbul’s restaurants and kitchens source seasonal organic produce such as figs, goat cheese and walnuts from local farmers and suppliers. In addition, Mövenpick Fair Trade coffee is offered in the various dining venues and as a Green Meeting option.

The hotel supports various community and environmental projects such as LÖSEV (Foundation for Children with Leukemia), a non-profit organization, that aims to provide educational and emotional support, financial assistance and health services for children who have leukemia or chronic blood disorders. Staff members are also keenly involved in blood donation drives for “Kızılay” Turkish Red Crescent, the largest humanitarian organization in Turkey which is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Furthermore, young trees have been donated to the Aegean Forest Foundation in order to reduce carbon emissions in the region and provide a healthier environment for future generations.
