On Saturday, June 27, “City Sand”, Harborplace & The Gallery’s premier summer event, brings the beach to the city with amazing sand sculptures, live music and other unique family friendly activities. Eight to 10 teams of architects, builders and design professionals will use more than 25 tons of sand to create spectacular, multi-dimensional sand sculptures while incorporating the 2009 theme, Edgar Allan Poe. Harborplace & The Gallery and the Baltimore Architecture Foundation have chosen this year’s theme to celebrate the 200th birthday of one of Baltimore’s most infamous icons and poets.

Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite sculptures and aid teams in winning the highly coveted “People’s Choice” award. While the design teams are building their sculptures, children will be able to make creations of their very own in a special sandbox. As teams create their masterpieces, judges will be reviewing their designs. The “Judges Choice” and “People’s Choice” awards will be announced at 3:45 p.m.

The Baltimore Islanders, a steel drum band, and the Key West Band, a Jimmy Buffett tribute band, will keep the party rockin’ after the awards ceremony.
