“In line with IHCL’s commitment to safeguard the environment, the initiative of phasing out plastic is a vital step towards developing sustainable practices,” said Puneet Chhatwal, Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Indian Hotels Company Limited, commenting on its initiative to eliminate plastic useage in its hotel rooms.

Taj Hotels Palaces Resorts Safaris, Vivanta, Gateway, and Ginger Hotels are participating in a plastic elimination challenge over a period of 2 weeks in support of Earth Hour. The hotels at India Hotels Company, Limited. (IHCL) will compete with each other in giving up plastic usage through innovative solutions. The most impactful and replicable initiatives will be judged for potential scaling across the company. In addition, 30 of its luxury hotels have replaced plastic-wrapped dry amenities in their rooms, such as toothbrush, shaving kit, etc., with eco-friendly substitutes.

“We look forward to introducing more such measures with every passing year,” added the IHCL MD and CEO.

IHCL has been participating in Earth Hour Global for many years with great enthusiasm. This year as well, all IHCL hotels will observe a one-hour switch-off of electricity from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on March 24, 2018 with a host of interesting guest and employee engagement activities.
